田氏之先，源于妫姓。舜后陈厉公子陈完，字敬仲，在陈国任大夫。他同御寇很要好，御寇被陈宣王杀后他怕受株连，便逃到齐国去。陈完为人谦逊有礼，向有贤名，齐桓公见他来了很高兴，就要封他为上卿。陈完推辞说："我是逃难在外的人，怎么敢得高位呢？"齐桓公于是任命他为工正（管理工匠的官）。陈完因为逃到齐国，不愿再用原来的国名为氏，就改称田氏（田与陈古音相同。又有说是因为封邑在田，所以称田氏）。郡望有两说，一说北平，一说雁门。
永康田氏，郡望雁门。据《填川田氏宗谱》载，始祖礼行１，随高宗南渡，约于宋建炎年间（１１２７～１１３０）卜居于永康填川（田宅），尔后析居于上田桥、下田桥等地。其行辈字目为"…忠贤开光大，立本兆文天"。
